VOCABULARY - Developing your language/word skillsSelect a story or article from any NZ School Journal of your choice. You will answer all the VOCABULARY section questions below based on your choice. Check with your teacher first to make sure your choice is suitable. Write the title of your story or article in your books.

3) Hyperbole: Write an example of hyperbole relating to your chosen text. Reference the page on which your example is located. [1 mk]
4) Simile: Write a simile relating to your chosen text. Reference the page on which your example is located. [1 mk]
5) Metaphor: Write a metaphor relating to your chosen text. Reference the page on which your example is located. [1 mk]
6) Write a haiku related to your chosen text. Each line MUST contain at least one
adjective which you must underline. [3 mks]

9) In your book, write an index for your article. Include 20 items with paragraph references. You will need to draft this first. Your teacher will help you start this task. [5 mks]
11) From the school library, find at least three different resources which deal with the same topic as your article. Show your teacher when you have found them and be ready to prove your choices are actually about the same topic. [3 mks]
12) Find an interesting website on the internet which deals with your article's main topic. Be prepared to share this website with your teacher and talk about what this website is all about. [3 mks]
Select any 2 (two) tasks from the options below: 13) Make four (4) Flippaz cards containing facts from your article (you can refer to other articles from your journal if you struggle to get enough facts from the article you have been using for these questions. 14) Make two (2) Panel FLIPboards from A4-sized card containing facts from your article (you can refer to other articles from your journal if you struggle to get enough facts from the article you have been using for these questions. You cannot use facts already used for task number 13 above!). [5 mks]
15) Make a wordfind puzzle based on your article. You will provide questions (not single words) and whoever is solving the wordfind will find the answer in the puzzle. You must include at least 6 words and their clues. Your teacher will explain your task further. You can use software/apps to complete this task. [5 mks]
16) Prepare and give a 1-2 minute speech to the class on the main topic of your article. You may use props to help you. Your speech should educate your audience and be interesting.
