You must score at least 10 credits to complete your contract. You can do more problems to get more credits, of course.

MODULE ONE

(1) Clever Monkeys CREDITS

Nine clever monkeys meet. If each clever monkey shakes hands with each of the other clever monkeys, how many handshakes will there be? [Help]

In the town of Geshwack, there are 20,000 people. Five percent of the population is one-legged, and half the remaining people go barefoot.

How many individual sandals (not pairs) are worn in Geshwack? [Help]

An archer was practising his marksmanship with the target shown in the diagram on the right. The archer fired off six (6) shots and scored exactly 100 points.

(4) Calculation training CREDITS

A train moving at 45 km/hour meets and is passed by a train going the other way on a parallel track moving at 36 km/hour.

A passenger on the first train sees the second train take 6 seconds to pass him. How long is the second train? [Help]

(7) Fuzzy Farmer Logic CREDIT

A farmer was asked how many animals he had on his farm. He answered, "They’re all horses except for two, all sheep except for two, and all pigs except for two."

How many animals did the farmer have? [Help]

(8) Dice Rolling CREDIT

Place a dice, with the one facing upwards on a 3 x 3 grid as shown. You can tip the dice up, down, left or right only onto the next square. See if you can roll the dice so that it is on the 7-square in only 6 moves. You must have the six-dot face on top! [Help]
