Each question is worth either 1, 2 or 3 credits - .
You must score at least 10 credits to complete your contract. You can do more problems to get more credits, of course.

MODULE ONE

(1) Balanced or What?!  CREDITS

How many 'A' balls does it take to balance one 'C' ball?  [Help]

(2) Pencil and Pen Problems Yet Again.
  CREDITS

Bill wanted to purchase 3 dozen pencils and a pen. Those items cost $21.55 and she did not have enough money.

So she decided to purchase 11 fewer pencils and paid $15.50.

How much was a pen? [Help]

(3) Money Trouble 2   CREDITS

Naz, Brock and Lisa each have some money.

The sum of Naz’s and Brock’s money is $35.00.

The sum of Brock’s and Lisa’s money is $38.00.

The sum of Naz’s and Lisa’s money is $31.00.

How much money does each person have? [Help]

(4) Age-old Problem   CREDITS

On Mars, there is a family of Neebleks.

The mother Neeblek is now 120 years old.

The three children are now 8, 9 and 13.

Twenty (20) years later, the total age of the mother and father is three times as much as the total of the ages of all three children.

How old is the father Neeblek now? [Help]




MODULE TWO

(5) Cats, Kittens, Sacks... Ummmm!!! What???   CREDITS

Six men, each carrying six sacks, were walking along a road.

Each sack had six cats, and each cat had six kittens.

How many cats were there total?  [Help]

(6) Zoo Picture!   CREDITS

Matthew is at a zoo.

He takes a picture of a one-metre snake beside a brick wall. When he developed his pictures, the one-metre snake is 2cm long and the wall is 4.5cm high.

What was the actual height of the brick wall in cm? [Help]

(7) Cover That Pool!!  CREDITS

The Gillis's house has a pool with the shape as shown. They want to make a cover for it for the harsh winter.

How much to the nearest cent are they going to have to spend on material if it costs $5.00/m2.  [Help]

 

(8) Weight!!!   CREDITS

The Nosferatu Central Gym has 2kg and 5kg disks for weight lifting.

Due to their budget this year they only have fourteen disks in all.

The total weight of the 2kg disks is the same as the total weight of the 5kg disks.

What is the total weight of all the disks?  [Help]

 




MODULE THREE

(9) Tremendous Tessellations  CREDITS

Create an original tessellating shape based on a scalene quadrilateral.

Prove your shape actually tessellates by tessellating the shape at least 8 times.

You must show ALL working, especially your original design work!





(10) It’s All About Timing  CREDITS

On a digital 24 hour clock, at certain times, all the digits are consecutive (in counting order). You can count forwards or backwards. For example, 1:23 or 5:43.

(A)  How many times like this are there between midnight and 7 a.m.?

(B)  How many are there between 7:00 a.m. and midday?

(C)  How many are there between midday and midnight?

(11) Queen’s Defence  CREDITS

On a 5 x 5 chessboard, use 3 queens to occupy or command (attack) all the squares on the board.


(12) Half-and-Half Challenge  CREDITS

Divide EITHER shape X or Y into two congruent pieces.
If you can do both, your get double the credits.




(13) Not In Line, Thanks!  CREDITS

On a 5 x 5 grid, place eight (8) counters so that no three counters lie in a line.

 

(14) Soma Easy, Soma Hard!!!  CREDIT/ solution

Use soma cubes to make the shapes below. Show your teacher to prove you have done them.
