The ADJECTIVE


Now, what IS an adjective?

Basically, an adjective is a word which modifies a NOUN.

ADJECTIVES tell us what a noun is like. It describes the noun .

ADJECTIVES can be thought of as describing words.

For example:
"It was an amazing picture."
The noun is "picture".
Now, what is this picture like? How is the picture described?
The word "amazing" tells us what the picture is like, so "amazing" MODIFIES the noun. In this sentence, then, "amazing" is the adjective.
